New Arrivals

The Michael L. Printz Award annually honors the best book written for teens, based entirely on its literary merit, each year.  Both of these books are Printz award winners  and came from our grant we received.
The first is called American Born Chinese.  This is a graphic novel.  From Destiny, "Three seemingly unconnected stories come together in this award winning graphic novel. Jin Wang has moved from Chinatown and is struggling to fit into his new white suburban neighbourhood. The Monkey King, being the most powerful monkey in the world wants to increase his status to God. And Danny, a popular basketball player, finds his social status at risk when his cousin, the ultimate of negative Chinese stereotypes, enrolls in his school. These unconnected stories unite with a surprising ending."  For a title peek click here.

The second is called A Step from Heaven.  This is about a young girl who leaves Korea for the USA.  It follows her life from the age of 4 up to college.  For a review please click here.

New Arrivals

I have entered a few books into the catalogue here at KCI.  All three books were donated by the Oklobdzijka family.  Thanks.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.  This will replace a "lost" copy from our collection.
"An adaptation of the Cinderella story, setting it in 17th-century Holland and making it a narrative of domestic upheavals and artistic challenges. The tale begins with the arrival of a recent widow from England, returned to her native Haarlem with her apparently retarded older daughter and a younger one who is unattractive but sharp and quickly develops an interest in painting. The three become housekeepers to the family of a tulip merchant; when his wife dies, leaving his own young daughter motherless, merchant and widow marry, and their daughters become stepsisters."--Library Journal.

Last Man Standing by David Baldacci, a #1 New York Times bestselling author.
Web London, a member of the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team, roars into a darkened alley one night with his team members, only to be ambushed seconds later. For reasons he can't understand, London is the sole survivor. As the FBI conducts their investigation, the cloud of suspicion surrounding London grows. Riddled with questions and guilt, he seeks the help of psychiatrist Claire Daniels. In a search for the truth, that will take him from the battlegrounds of inner city Washington to the affluence of Virginia horse country, Web London sets out to discover what really happened that deadly night, as forces from all sides try to stop him.

Another book by Baldacci is The Christmas Train.
Tom Langdon, a weary and cash-strapped journalist, is banned from flying when a particularly thorough airport security search causes him to lose his cool. Now, he must take the train if he has any chance of arriving in Los Angeles in time for Christmas with his girlfriend. To finance the trip, he sells a story about a train ride taken during the Christmas season.
