Here are some icons from the Noun Project.
What is the Noun Project you ask? Well it is non-profit organization that is simply trying to iconify every noun so it is universally understood. The symbols are simple, bold and best of all free. Their licensing agreement is Creative Commons. This would be great for an art class to do as a project. Think of a noun that you love, for example for me it would be pinball. Then come up with an icon that would represent it.
