Flash Cards and Quizlet

Image result for quizlet logo logo
I had a student ask me about making flashcards digitally.  I pointed out Quizlet  that I blogged about this a few years ago.  The site has some ready made flash cards or you can make your own.  Click here to see the post.  There are other flashcard sites I have blogged about.  See Flippity  by clicking here  and Memrise by clicking here.   After looking at Quizlet again I noticed you can do other ways of quizzing yourself instead of just flash cards.  For example you can do matching by  having your flash cards all on one screen and match the fronts and the backs.  See an example of this by clicking here.  You can see all the cards at the bottom and then select MATCH.  This is the last post for 2018.  Have a great holiday and I will post more in the 2019.  Be safe.

Memrise

Memrise is a tool to learn many different subjects.  It is part flash cards for review or learning.  It is part quiz.  I like this tool.  There a many premade categories with subtopics ranging from languages to science, math, history etc.  You can even make your own.  For example I looked under languages and found Ukrainian.  There are many science and math ones.

Memrise will give you one "term" with a definition  then when you are ready you will get a second "term" and its definition.  After that you will be quizzed.  More "terms" and more quizzing.  You get the picture.  I used "terms" in quotes as it could be a new word in Spanish, or a new word in Biology or a new graph in Functions etc.  Check it out by clicking here.

There are many science ones.  For example there was one on parts of the cell which fits in nicely with grade 9 science.

Here are the terms the student can learn.  Then when you start it will give you one term with a definition then when you are ready you will get a second term and its definition.  After that you will be quizzed.  More terms and more quizzing.  You get the picture.
Some of the slides I saw included pictures, pronunciation and sound.  There are many uses for the class room educator.  First students can go on there own to review.  Even better there is Memrise for Teachers.  Memrise for Teachers allows you to add students to your account.  You can then assign review material for them and track their progress.  To go to the Memrise site click here.  To go to the Memrise for Teachers site click here.
