Here is an article and short video about a math teacher using escape room with some bells and whistles to make an interesting math classroom.  This might be a really good idea for a review exercise.  To see the article click here.  For some more ideas on escape rooms click here.

The Newest Americans

This Webby Award Nominee was pointed out by Larry Ferlazzo. I know it is not Canadian but it has stories about new immigrants to the US and I am sure will still work with ESL students in Canada.  To see the site click here.

Mapquiz

This is a neat geography guessing game.  You are presented with a map location and you have to guess the country out of four picks.  After you guess it will show you the correct answer and some information about the country.  Note in the top right hand corner you can point the map so north is at the top of the page.  You can also zoom in or out.  It was 8 for 8 until I got nailed on Tajikistan.  I guessed Kazakhstan.  Sorry Borat.  To play the game click here.  Tomorrow is a PD day so have a great long weekend KCI students.

Here is some more advice for newer teachers.  Click here to see it.  I like this one as a librarian, "In college I was told: Be friends with the secretary, custodians, and librarians."

Instructables Hands-on Projects

According to their website, "Instructables is committed to helping teachers inspire, engage, and prepare students through hands-on projects to make in the classroom. Always free, and always fun, come explore projects for your next classroom lesson!".  The have many contests/projects running at this time which you can find by clicking here.  Teachers may also want to look here for ideas for the classroom.  As of the time that I am writing this there are only two entries in both these contests and 9 and 20 prizes respectively in each contest.
