Vocabulary Time-fillers

From their website "As much as we plan out our lessons in detail, we sometimes have a few minutes we need to fill. It’s not long enough to start a new topic, but we can (and should) fill it with meaningful activities. Popsicle Activity in your Spanish / French Class

Last week I posted a Spanish teaching post using Jenga.  To see that post click here.  Today I am posting about a nice idea that could be used in your Spanish or French class.  Instead of using flash cards Ms Tarantino suggests using Popsicle sticks as the media she uses for an opposite adjective activity.  To see the website click here. 

Conversation Jenga for Language Classes

Click here for a link to site about using Jenga to help students work on their conversational Spanish but it could easily be used in your French class.   As promised the explanation for the problem on Friday is that 2581 has two circles in it and therefore the answer is two.

March Music Madness in Your Language Class

It is almost March and you know what that means!  March Reading Madness.  I do March Reading Madness in the library and I thought this would be a cool idea in Spanish Class (or any other language course).  Below is the bracket for 2016.  To see the website click here.  Have your students listen to a few different songs per class for a week and then they can vote each class and you can post the winner up each day after all your classes vote.  Have fun.

French Conjugation Dice

If you want to have your students practice their conjugation, I found these dice outlines on Cartable et récré that you can have your students roll.  For the verbs to conjugate you might want to look at this.

Virtual Walking Tour with Google Maps in the Spanish Class

Looking to get your Spanish class (could also be your French  or German class) out of the classroom and into the computer lab?  This assignment uses Google Maps and might be just the thing for you.  If you go to the website, you will see the instructions below and a template for the students to use.  All they have to do is go to Google Maps and take a screen shots from street view of an appropriate scene.  To see the website click here.

If you are a French as a second language teacher you might want to  make a poster out of this and post it in your room. 

National Essay Contest in French

Notas de Agradecimiento

This might be an idea you can use if you teach High School Spanish (but could easily be used in your French class too).  This comes from Catharyn Crane at Sol Azucar.

Write "Notas de Agradecimiento" en Español

Practice real world Spanish interpersonal writing skills while showing some thanks with a nota de agradecimiento for a favorite teacher.

Task:

Students will be able to write a simple thank you note in Spanish to express their gratitude to a favorite teacher of their choice.
I collect all the thank you notes at the end of the day and leave them in teachers' mailboxes as a special treat.
Materials:

1 piece of card stock for each student (cut in quarters for a post card OR in halves to be folded like a thank you note)
List of useful thank you phrases (I post on the chalk board)
Markers, colored pencils, other decorating materials (glitter and feathers if you dare!)

Delf A1 Resources for French

One of the French teachers at my school was in the library lab and I asked her what she was looking at on the computer, yeah I am nosy.  Long and short of it I ended up looking up a few things for her.  If you are teaching French at the grade 9 applied level these two links to pdfs might be of use to you.

The Simpson's in French / Spanish Class

Even though this is probably at too juvenile a level for high school French, I am sure you might get away by changing it for our introductory Spanish class.  Just a thought.  You can find the original by clicking here.

Radio Garden - An Interactive Map of Radio Stations

This interactive map of the world shows green dots where they have radio stations you can click on to hear.  It could be great in a French or Spanish language class to click on a station in Paris or Barcelona or Quebec City or, well you get the idea. You might want to use this in your Music class or in an Current Events class to tune into a station near a location of interest you are discussing in class.  Enjoy.   To see the website click here.

Year End Spanish/French Awards

Seeing that the end of the semester is coming up, you might like this idea for your class. I saw this idea on Catharyn Crane's website.  She gives out certificates to all her Spanish Language students. She makes a different one for each one.  You could easily do the same idea in French or for that matter in any other course.

Here is what Catharyn posted on her website, "Last year I gave out end of the year award certificates each of my students, and they LOVED it. It was also a really nice closure for me. I got to call up each student, say a few nice words, and then give them their certificate. Some were silly, some were serious, all were thoughtful."

Digital Dialects

The games and activities found on Digital Dialects are educational and are meant for students learning a new language.  At the time of this post they have 77 languages.  For French teachers here is a screen shot of the French page.

Daily French Podcast

Daily French Pod has a  French lesson that is new every day just for you.  The podcast lessons that are posted have a different difficulty level every day so as a teacher you may have to hunt through them to find suitable podcasts for your students.  To see the site click here.

Ma France - Interactive French Videos

This is from the BBC.  Units include topics such as:  directions, shopping, work, eating out, kids and pets and more.  There are pdf's for the teacher on each of the interactive videos.  The site includes a glossary and syllabus.  To see the website click here.

   

Telling Time in French
