Choose My Plate, Mon Assiette, Mi Plato


This site is created by the United States Department of Agriculture.    The site promotes healthy eating.   You can Plan, Analyze and Track your food with Super Tracker.  There is a Tool Kit for teachers in My Plate, My State. To see the main webpage click here.  You may want to cursor to the bottom of the page to look at the Online Tools.   For the Spanish teachers, My Plate Daily Checklist is also available in Spanish.  To see it in Spanish click here.   For French or other languages click here.  Also there is a Kids State Dinner, which is a pdf booklet of student submitted recipes from all 50 US states.  It is described as a healthy lunchtime challenge.  To see this click here.

Too Much Sugar

If you teach Health, Physical Education or Foods you might want to look at these sites/videos that Richard Byrne posted.  They all deal with sugar and our bodies.  The first one is Rethink Your Drink which is a pdf document dealing with how much sugar is in most drinks and lists alternatives.  To see the website click here.  The next two were videos.  The first is a TED ED lesson called How Sugar Effects the Brain and is embedded below.

Sugar Stacks is a great site to visualize how much sugar is in what we consume.

Ted Ed - What are Carbohydrates?

From the popular Ted Ed series of videos I noticed this video on Carbohydrates and how they impact your health by Richard J. Artificially Bred Crops



How much have certain crops changed in 9000 years due to artificial breeding?  James Kennedy a chemistry teacher from Australia has produced some interesting infographics that could be used if you are teaching about genetically modified foods.
