In early February, Pope Benedict XVI announced he would be retiring as head ofthe Roman Catholic

people with guns. We look at why guns are so readily available in the U.S. and examine whether Canada
is any different.

If you have not used this resource in the past, CBC provides a fully editable word file for both teachers and students.

Some new magazines that have just been shelved are:

Prezi

Many teachers and students use power points.  I have posted about alternatives to Power Points ( click here) before.  Many teachers at KCI have seen or have used Prezi but I thought it might be worthwhile showing some.  The first one below just shows what you can do as an educator using Prezi.

Here are a couple of examples of Prezis by French teachers.

Here is a Prezi about making Prezis from a grade 7 student.

Free Comic Book Day

FCBD 2013 header logo

I was going to post about the uses of Manga in the classroom ( I will another day) but after finding out that it was Free Comic Book Day on Saturday I had to drop everything and switch gears.  Free comic book day is the first Saturday in May.  I figured this would just be for the USA but after checking with freecomicbookday.com for a participating store near our school I found the following participants:
1) Rogues Gallery Comics, 327 Chatham Street West, (519) 254-9482
2) Cartoon Kingdom, 2001 Provincial Road, (519) 972-0009
3) Border City, 1984 Wyandotte Street East, (519) 977-7311

There looks like a wide range of comic books for a wide range of ages.  For the younger kiddies there are: Sesame Street , Strawberry Shortcake, Sponge Bob, Sonic and Smurfs. For the older ones there are: Superman, The Walking Dead,  Judge Dredd and many others.   Below is the full list of books.

This is not an exit

I know in the past students and teachers have used the entry door of the library as an exit.  This is very dangerous and I have seen a few students hit by the door.  As teachers please set an example and use the exit door to exit.  We now have a huge sign  that will let you know which door is NOT an exit.

10 of the Most Dangerous Journeys to Schools Around the World

From
We all have heard our parents tell us how hard things were back in the day and how easy we have it now ( or you may be saying that to your own children or your students).   Kind of like this commercials for you that are to young to remember Monty Python.

If you don't know what Monty Python is then here is the same kind of video as above but I think a bit funnier.

Well I digress.  What I was getting at was that "Take Part" has some interesting pictures of what  some students have to do to get to school.  Maybe we take a few things for granted.  If you would like to see the article and pictures click here.
