Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle
According to Common Sense Education, "EdPuzzle is the perfect tool for allowing students to watch and engage with videos while the teacher gathers data throughout the lesson. As teachers dabble into the flipped classroom philosophy, EdPuzzle is the perfect enhancement tool for videos to be watched at home instead of eating up valuable class time. EdPuzzle allows you to take a video from Youtube, Kahn Academy, Learn Zillion, Crash Course or you can upload your own video and manipulate the portion that you need. Once you have uploaded the video you can crop the video to remove or shorten the video to be an appropriate length for the lesson you are teaching. The teacher then has the capability to record their voice on top of the video, allowing the teacher to maintain a voice in the lesson. The quiz feature allows you to embed questions as students are watching the video. On the teacher account you can see the progress that the student has made on the questions and the amount of time the student has taken to complete the lesson. Teachers can also place restrictions on the video, so students can not fast forward through the video. Videos can be easily embedded onto learning management systems such as Edmodo, Schoology, Moodle, etc. From the start to finish EdPuzzle is extremely user-friendly. Once the video is uploaded the features are simple and very easy to use. You can enhance your videos with just a few simple touches or embed many questions and voiceovers throughout the video. I would suggest using the audio voiceover at least once because students respond positively to hearing your voice in the video. The company is very responsive and if you have questions they do respond very quickly through email and Twitter."

Fantasy Geopolitics

I know many people play Fantasy Football and this year I tossed my hat in and I am playing a weekly Fantasy Hockey for free of course (trying to win a RAM truck or $1000 weekly prize).  Today I am posting about a Fantasy game you can play with your students in a Social Studies/Current Events class.  It is called Fantasy Geopolitics and you pick countries that will be mentioned in the News the most.  It is free to play but you are only allowed 5 players in your league but if you have teams of 5 or 6 that should cover your class.  You can always pay a $20 monthly fee or $99 yearly fee and have up to 150 people entered.  To see the website click here.  To see Mr Klatt's team picking assignment click here.  To see Mr Klatt's website on Fantasy Geopolitics click here.

Good luck on your exams and I will be back posting after your exams.

Gapminder - Demographics and it's Social Impact

Gapminder -

You may not of Han's Rosling but he has some interesting video's and a fabulous website that you may want to use in your class that lets you see the correlation between many socio-economic variables.  Here are a couple of his videos.  The first video is from the BBC.

The second video is from the Guardian.

The third is a TED talk.

The website I mentioned can be found by clicking here.  Gapminder has some excellent ways of looking at world data.  Check out their Teacher Tab or just click here.  Teachers, if you have time take a look at this over the break and see where you can use it in your classroom.  Students, maybe this could be a way of looking at some data for your next project.
